same time) to launch a video file, I get an "Invalid use of a null" error and the program aborts. before a topic has been selected for viewing) the program ends with a "Runtime error 3078".7. The text and graphic are too large for the notepad and video viewer.
Problem 1: The Coach's Guide desktop display is not entirely visible; portion of the right edge and/or bottom edge is missing.
Solution: The guide is designed for an 800x600 Desktop Area display. If your desktop area settings are less than 800x600 then the guide desktop will not display properly. You will need to change your display settings to an 800x600 desktop area.
To change the display desktop area
setting:
1. Move
your mouse pointer to an open area of your Windows desktop (away from program
icons) and click the right mouse button.
2.
Problem 2: The colors are not correct.
Solution: The guide is designed for True Color (24-Bit) palette. If your display colors are set below True Color (16 Colors or 256 Colors) you will not be able to view the subtle differences in color that is required for the photos and other graphics. Change your display settings to True Color (24-Bit). If your system will not allow you to use the True Color palette, you may find that High Color (16-Bit) is acceptable.
To change the Color Palette:
1. Move your mouse pointer to an open area of your Windows desktop (away from
program icons) and click the right mouse button.
2. From the pop-up menu, select "Properties".
3. When the Display Properties window opens, click the "Settings" tab.
4. In the control group labeled "Color Palette" click the drop-down
box and select the True Color (24-Bit) setting (if the True Color (24-Bit)
option is not available, select the highest color palette option that is
available in the drop-down box).
5. Click "OK" at the bottom of the Display Properties window. If
windows asks to restart your computer, click "YES", otherwise click
"OK" to the message box.
Problem 3: Video does not play when I click the "Video" button.
Solution: Not every page in the Coach's Guide has an associated video file. If the "Video" caption on the video button is colored gray, then the video button is not active, and if you click it, nothing will happen. When a video file is available for a topic, the video button will be colored white. If you click the video button when it is colored white, the associated video file should launch correctly.
Problem 4: When I use the video shortcut keys "Alt+V" on the keyboard (press the Alt key and the V key at the same time) to launch a video file, I get an "Invalid use of a null" error and the program aborts.
Solution. If you press the video shortcut keys (Alt+V) when the video button is not active (colored gray) the program will cause an "Invalid use of a null" error. The problem is a program bug. which will be fixed as soon as possible. In the interim, don't use the video shortcut keys when a video is not active (video caption colored gray). If you use the shortcut keys when the video is active (colored white), however, the video should launch correctly. Registered users will be notified when program updates are available.
Problem 5: When I use the video shortcut keys (Alt+V) on the opening screen (just after the program starts but before a topic has been selected for viewing) the program ends with a "Runtime error 3078".
Solution: This is a program bug which will be fixed as soon as possible. In the interim, don't use the video shortcut key when the initial screen is displayed. Select a topic with an active video before pressing the Alt+V shortcut keys. Registered users will be notified when program updates are available.
Problem 6: Video does not play, instead I get a "Video not available - unable to find vids YVU9 decompressor" message in the video viewing screen area.
Solution: Your system's video codecs need to be updated. If your copy of Windows has not been updated to the latest video compression drivers, you may not be able to play the video segments in the Coach's guide. You can receive the video updates free from Microsoft by visiting the Microsoft Windows Update web site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/default.htm. The easiest way to obtain the updates is detailed below.
To Auto-Update Video Codecs
1. Place the coach's Guide CD in your
CD-ROM drive.
2. Open the "My Computer" folder, usually displayed on your Window's
desktop.
3. From the list of disk drives shown in the window, Double-Click your CD-ROM
drive to open it.
4. When the window for your CD-ROM drive opens, Double-Click the "CG"
folder to open it.
5. Within the CG folder, open the "Data" folder.
6. Within the Data folder, open the "AVI" folder.
7. From the list of AVI files, Double-Click one. Windows should launch the
Windows Media Player and attempt to play the video file. If media player can't
find the appropriate video decompression codec on your system, the media player
software will automatically connect to the Microsoft Windows web site through
your internet connection and download the "Intel Indeo YVU9 Codec"
file. (NOTE: See "Media Player Doesn't Update", below, if your media
player program fails to auto-update the video codecs.)
8. After the download is complete (this only takes a couple of minutes), the
video should play in the media player window. If so, then your system is
properly updated and the Coach's Guide should now be able to play the video.
9. Close media player and all of the windows that you have opened (TIP: you can
press the "Shift" key and click the "X" button on the
top-most window to close all the windows in the chain at one time).
Media Player Doesn't Update
If your Media Player doesn't automatically update the video codecs when you attempt to play a Coach's Guide video file (as detailed above), then your system may need to be upgraded to allow auto-updates. Visit the Microsoft Windows Update web site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/default.htm and select the "Product Updates" link. Follow the instructions on the web page for upgrading your Windows version to the latest release.
If the system asks if you want to install the auto-upgrade feature, answer "yes" and the Microsoft software will install. After this software upgrade is complete, the program will determine which other updates that your system needs. When the web page listing the recommended updates is shown, allow the system to install the "Critical Updates" package, if needed. The installation process may be lengthy and may ask to restart your system. Answer "yes" if prompted for a restart. After all system upgrades are completed, re-visit the Microsoft web site and download and install the latest version of Media Player, if one is available.
After these upgrades are completed, repeat the steps listed above for obtaining the latest codecs through the Media Player software.
Problem 7: The text and graphic are too large for the notepad and video viewer.
Solution: On some systems, the user may select Large or Small Fonts as the default size for characters displayed on the monitor. If the font selection is set to "Large Fonts" the "foreground" graphics and text may not fit the "background" desktop used in the Coach's Guide. In this case, change the font selection to "Small Fonts" and the images should then align properly.
How to Change the Display Font Size
Selection
1. Right Click anywhere on the Windows desktop.
2. From the pop-up menu, select "Properties".
3. From the "Display Properties" window, click the
"Settings" tab.
4. On the Settings tab, click the "Advanced" button. This will open
the video adapter's properties window.
5. From the adapter's properties window, select the "General" tab.
6. On the General tab, under a group heading of "Display", find a
drop-down scroll box which shows the font setting. If it is set to "Large
Fonts", click the drop-down arrow to the right of the box and choose
"Small Fonts" from the list of options.
7. Click "OK". The system may ask to reboot. If so, answer
"Yes" to the prompt and the system will restart and the font setting
will be changed. Otherwise, click "OK" on the Display Properties
window and the font will be changed.
8. Verify that the change has corrected the display problem.
Problem 8: Your computer has missing or corrupt system files.
Solution: This error is caused by one or more missing or damaged Windows system files on your computer. The error message may point to one of three possible files, "autoexec.nt", "config.nt", or "command.com". The files may be missing or damaged in one of the following subdirectories: "C:\Windows", "C:\Windows\System", or "C:\Windows\System32". To correct the problem, the missing or damaged file must be replaced on your computer. The following link is to the Microsoft support web page that describes the problem and its solution (below):
